Desktop icons disappeared.

I had a lot of folders on my desktop but I logged in today and it was all blank. But when i went to My Computer>Local disk C>Documents and Settings>My user account>Desktop, it was all there. I had my itunes which had over a 1000 songs and now i have to move everything in there and rename every single song. Is there anyway I can restore itunes to the way it was? The folders don't show up on my desktop.
