I have just recently gotten a virus on my laptop and after running numerous scans from norton to kaspersky to avira nothing seems to find it. I have purchased a new hard drive for the laptop and I am going to make this drive into a dual boot linux/windows 7 drive. If I have anti virus software on both OS's and I attempt to remount the old virus infected hard drive to recover data will the virus porgrams prevent the virus from jumping from the old hard drive to the new one?

as long as you don't execute any programs that reside on the old drive you can't transfer the virus. To be doubly sure use the new OS and new antivirus program to scan the old hard drive. Don't copy programs from the old drive only data. Then reformat the old drive after you have copied the data.

Good Luck

First make a scan for the drive from new pc and you can extract data from it.
