Try going into Sounds and audio device properties select Advanced in speaker settings and change to stero headphones.

Well have you done what I suggested. Some devices may need you to run a test to see if your headphones are installed.
Try turning off your speakers and pluging in your headphones.
You do not say if you have a laptop or desktop If you have a laptop check your manual.
