Disk Drive not working

Hello,
I have an Acer TravelMate 8371. It doesn't have an internal disk drive so i had to buy one and it has a special USB connector. It was working absolutely perfectly yesterday but now when I plug it in nothing happens at all. It has to be connected to power to open and it won't open. I've looked at it and it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it. PLEASE HELP!!!
