When you boot into the BIOS, does the hard drive show up?
It is possible that it could have been removed from the boot order.
It's a long shot, but I have to ask.
Do you have another SATA cable which you could use?
It could be a bad connection from the HDD to the motherboard (aka bad SATA cable).
Another long shot, but it's worth a shot.
