Black screen, cannot log into windows

Hi, i need some help and would appreciate it very much.

So, i downloaded the SP3 for my windows Xp on a dell inspiron E1405 and got the freezing problem, so I tried system restore and when it restarted it automatically went to chkdsk and thats where a problem struck. While that was running it froze, i waited for at least 5 mins then decided i needed to shut it off since it wasnt going anywhere at all. When i did it asked if it should start up regularly or to a previous setting, when i chose regular it loaded fine until it was time for the log in screen, there it was all black with NO cursor. I've tried F8 and even safe modes(didnt work just froze there) and cannot use the CD to reinstall since i do not have it anymore. Please help! thankyou!
