Internet red X on icon

Well I find myself in a bit of s pickle. I have an asus G71 notebook that primarily used for music as well as an access point for my gaming consoles. The other day when I went to connect to the Internet, it said connected but I couldn't browse or download content to my consoles hard drive. Also, while it says connected, the little icon near the clock in the lower right corner still has the red x(it's the icon that looks like two computer monitors, one behind the other.)

Hi there,

Click on the network icon and check if the ip is in automatic or manual,check for both,and you are using which os ?wired or wireless connection?
