Hello, I am trying to reformat my hard drive. I am booting from CD, I press any key and it starts to do its thing and then when it says setup is starting windows then I get a blue screen that says a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks

Please bear with me, I am a newbie. I am not sure what you mean when you say sata or ide hard disk. I have a notebook (an external hard drive that I backed my computer on) but I do not have it connected when I am trying to reformat. I think I am trying to make a "downgrade" because when I just insert the windows xp disk in it tell me that I am running a more current version. I sent my computer to the shop one other time and I bet they put a more current version of xp on it. Thanks
