Well, firstly is your screen resolution changed? Do icons/text seem bigger than normal?
If so you are probably just in safe mode. You shut down your computer weird, or power was cut and you didn't notice, etc. So when it started, it started up in Safe mode which natively has no network connections, no themes, and some device drivers or devices altogether are not started.

ahhhh, you have a good point, i'll have to try that out! :]
could it be a virus, or registry error? Or possibly a missing file?
i don't know if i stated this in my first post, but the computer doesn't seem to recognize, usb's, or cd/dvd'
