Black screen on Acer laptop

Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire laptop that the screen is black at start up. There is some light but still is black. I have tried taking the battery out and holding power button for 30 seconds, but this does not work. When the screen is black, if I hit esc a cursor shows up on the screen but I cannot typoe anything or doing anything else. Please help!
