Plays dvd movies but not cd music

Hello,
I have a toshiba laptop with vista. Windows media player used to play both dvd movies and cd music. Now the computer does not even recognize a cd being inserted. It still recognizes and plays movies from the same drive. Can anyone help?

Hi there,

Did you try the cd on another pc or cd player?does it have scratches?please provide more information.

I am able to play the cd on my desktop, car, and vcr/dvd player but not the laptop. I just finished a system recovery disc but still cannot play cds only dvds.
