Decoder for window media player

Hello,
I have recently installed xp profession. I could install everything but after I installed my stuffs I encounter little glitch. My window player no more plays any DVD and when I attempt to play it ask for decoder. When I follows the instruction suggested by computer I need to buy. Is there any way I can download decoder free for my window player.
