Cannot access the device

Hello,

I have a 320 GB Transcend usb mass storage device without any data stored on it and I have been using it without problems for several months. Now when I plug it in, the drive comes up in my computer as drive J.The drive properties show 0kb for free space and 0kb for used space though there isn't any data stored for sure.The device when connected asks for formatting but windows is unable to format it with the cause that it cannot access the data.Please help me to sort out of this troubleshooting.

It could be a few things, the drive could be damaged, or you don't have the permissions to access it. But, seeing as you've accessed it for several months, I'm thinking that it could be damaged. Try taking back to where you got it and ask them to look at it.
