STILL "no audio output device is installed"

I have tried disabling and then enabling, and also uninstalling and reinstalling. Still no audio, even though when I go to control panel - device manager - system devices - high definition audio controller, it says "This device is working properly." PLEASE HELP! I have a Toshiba Satellite and my operating system is Vista.
