Windows Movie Maker Solved/Closed

Question

Hello, 

I have installed a fresh copy of Windows Xp. When i try to use Windows Moviw Maker and Imported a Picture/Mp3 file it give this error:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Pictures\Sample Pictures\Water lilies.jpg could not be imported. Unspecified error"

I downloaded windows Movie maker 2.1 from microsoft Website and Installed it but still i am facing the same problem. Please anyone can help. Or please recommend any other software like Windows Movie Maker. Thanks

Before we can find a solution, I have a few questions.

1. Is it your first time you are trying to make a video?

2. Are you getting the error with all files pics and MP3's?

3. What are the steps you follow to import?

Hello Bluemountain

Since you have made videos before, I don't need to know how you proceed and certainly that if you used the sample pic that none of the files you are trying to import are not corrupted and are in the right format.

So the source of the problem must reside with your fresh XP installation.

As a first step, I suggest that you click on start, all programs and on Windows update.  I suspect that some .dll is missing or was not installed properly.  Windows has issued some updates for Win XP.

Please let me know, because making videos is fun.

Hmm Its not the first time i am facing this problem. This problem exists since i have my computer lol. Every time i install new windows Windows Movie Maker works fine but after Installation of some DRIVERS (SOUND, VGA e.t.c). It starts giving error. I think some driver corrupts its files or something i don't know.

I insist, you must update, it's the very first step to cover all the bases.

The second step would be to click on start, click on run and type chkdsk and click on ok.

Hello Bluemountain,

After you have clean the registry, please try to import a file and see if you get the error again.

I would be curious if you let me know if Eusing free found error after you ran registry mechanic.

Hello,

I downloaded Eusing Registry Cleaner. After scanning with registry mechanics i scanned with Eusing registry cleaner. It found more than 400 problems. I repaired them All and then run the Movie Maker but no success same problem still exists.

Thank you for the video.  (What software have you used to capture?)

I believe that the issue occured after the installation of the various software you indicated which changed some attributes.

Please fix the issue following these steps and let me know about your capture software and the fix results:

Go to a command prompt (Start|Programs|Accessories|Command Prompt) and type 

Set 

followed by the Enter key 

The resulting output usually contains a line like: 

TEMP=C:\DOCUME~1\UserName\LOCALS~1\Temp 

The stuff after the = sign is the path to the temporary files folder. You need to change directory to the parent folder of this temporary files folder (usually C:\DOCUME~1\UserName\LOCALS~1) by executing command 

CD C:\DOCUME~1\UserName\LOCALS~1 

followed by the Enter key 

Then check that the Temp sub-folder exists using the dir command. If it doesn't already exist, create it using 

MD Temp 

followed by the Enter key 

the folder may have the read-only flag, so reset the attributes by executing command 

attrib -r +a -s -h Temp 

followed by the Enter key

Hmm no its not solved yet.. I am done with it..lol.. Do you know any other Software like Windows Movie Maker (Fast and Simple). because i think The problem isn't going to solve.. :-(
