Ipod wont sync ( doesnt even come up)

hi i have an ipod touch 2nd generation which my nextdoor neighbour gave me and i tried to sync it to my computer but it continusly makes a system sound and the ipod buzzes. i reset the ipod to see if that would get it working and i now cant use it as it says conect to itunes please help.
