Hello,

My dell vostro had a virus, so I tried formatting it. it kept saying hard drive not recognized. so, i bought and installed a new hard disk. it said same error for it, but i could install windows 7. i want to go back to windows xp. how can i replace the 7 with xp. when i try booting from dvd/cd drive with xp, it says hard drive not recognizable. why is it that 7 could be installed but not xp?

Heres the step on how you can install xp on pre installed win 7.
First.
On the Setup of your bios.
Choose the ATA instead of AHCI on the SATA configuration..
then now apply the changes. then insert your cd on the cd rom. make sure you have chosen the cd as your first boot device

if the hardisk using NTFS format, windows 7 automaticly recognize. But windows XP need some driver for NTFS format at installations, except FAT32. Maybe it's your problem.
