I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have a LENOVO T60 type 2007-CTO running XP Professional SP2.
Windows did not recognized the existance of a bluetooth device at first. Bluetooth icon was missing in system tray and control pannel. Device manager did not show any bluetooth hardware in the system.
I browsed LENOVO's site and found there was a firmware upgrade recommended for my model (v2.1.211.299) which I downloaded and run in my laptop. After this I downloaded Bluetooth Enhanced Data Rate software (v5.1.0.4700) and installed it. Bluetooth icon is now there in system tray as well as in control pannel but it reports that no bluetooth hardware is found. When I go to device manager it reports there is a bluetooth device running properly.
