Hello,

I am trying to put a clean install of windows xp on a computer. I kepp gettting error messages one being about a dll file missing and the error code is 7. I tried the f5 and f7 thing neither worked. I then tried installing windows me and i get the message there was an error writing to hd. I have tried 2 diff hd and i get the same message. I have been in bios and my hd is showing up. I have tried setting the defaults in bios. I have even taken out the cmos battery and putting it back in. Could this be a bad mother board? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem seems to lie within the installation disk of Windows. I highly suggest getting a different Windows ME disk, or get a different install disk such as Windows XP or Windows 2000.

on my experience of technician, most likely is a failure on motherboard, system memory or other internal devices. try installing another OS like linux and see what happen.
