Crashed hard disk....

my 1.5 terabyte buffalo hard disk after transferring some data didnt want to open...asked to be reformated...no system files to be loaded....it was in fat32 when i bought it..i changed it to ntfs..want it to be in ntfs now...anyway i could recover back the data in it....i tried to format it but it said windows cant format the drive.....
