Try this 1
Right-click on any one file --> Select the option "Open with" --> Choose Program
--> Under "Programs", select "Acrobat Reader" ( Select the program that helps
you to view the PDF file Ex: The application that is installed, "Acrobat Reader" or
"Foxit reader" ) --> Check the check box "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file" --> Click on OK.

If your OS is vista or windows 7
go to Start and type this in search option
Default programs
Now select it and click on ''Associate a file type or protocol with a program''
search for .doc and .docx extensions
Make sure they are assigned to open with microsoft office
