Greetings,
According to what you mentioned, I think you can use a proxy server software for Internet connection sharing. Bellow are the steps:
1.Connect the laptop and PC with a cross cable. The network settings should be different with the wifi network setting. e.g.
Laptop:
IP - 192.168.1.1
Mast - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
DNS - 192.168.1.1
PC:
IP - 192.168.1.2
Mast - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - leave it blank
DNS - leave it blank
Please make sure you can ping laptop from PC.
2. Install a proxy server software such as CCProxy and Wingate on the laptop.
CCProxy has free version and it is easy to use but can not support transparent proxy which means you need to make proxy settings on the PC.
Wingate can support transparent proxy cause it can work as a gateway but it's a little complex compare with CCProxy.
Honestly speaking, Wingate has more features than CCProxy but, for home users, CCProxy is indeed easy.

3. Make proxy settings on the PC.
For IE: Click "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> "Connections" -> "LAN Settings" -> select "Use a proxy server for your LAN" -> "Advanced" -> type 192.168.1.1 as proxy address and port (depending on your settings) here.
For Firefox: Click "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Advanced" -> "Network" -> "Connections" -> "Settings" -> "Manual proxy configuration" -> type 192.168.1.1 as proxy address and port (depending on your settings) here.
