Hello,
Im having a similar problem to what has already been posted, but im not getting anywhere. Basically, i want to restore factory settings on a toshiba running vista. Theres no disc as i believe theyre all on the hard drive, no matter what option i choose after holding f8 or 0 down.it comes back to the grey screem saying ' the installed program cannot start, click ok to turn of the computer'. Any ideas how i can bypass this screen? Perhaps a command prompt or something? Any help woul be realy really appreciated!

Hi James,

You are correct, Toshiba does not issue disks and the recovery partition is on the drive.

Here is how to reset as indicated in the FAQ

Good luck

Hello, thanks for your response. I have tried to access the part where i can change where it boots from by pressing f8 as well as the two options on the toshiba start up screen (i think f2 and f12) and it just takes me to a black screen, only giving the options to start as usual or start up repair, both of which takes me back to the grey screen...is there another way to change it?

James

In the following thread, you will find two solutions for Toshiba. One will work for you.

Good luck

As I said, I have already tried both of those things, neither work. I cannot get further than the adavanced options screen, it just goes to a grey screen whichever option I choose.

Gee, I wish I could help you further. All the solutions I gave you worked for many others.

My last suggestion is to contact Toshiba.

Sorry
