Do you have firewalls? Make sure that your computer allows all access to msn.
Also, has the error message always appeared? if not, think of the last time you were successfully able to log in, and try to remember if you encountered any viruses. If you have, then do the most advanced virus scan you can, and if you can't delete it, you might have to uninstall, then reinstall.
I had the same problem with mine, and an annoying virus prevented me from doing anything on it, an advanced search found it and deleted it.
