My laptop is broken.

Hello, my name is Moji and I need your help. My laptop's screen is 3/4 black and I can see only a stripe of the left of the desktop. So tell me what's the problem and can I fix it by myself or not?
My laptop is a Hp pavilion dv6000 special edition. My graphic card is a NVidia Geforce 8400gs and I don't know I can replace it with an ATI or not.

Please Help Me!

to determine its a hardware issue or software issue
just move ur finger nail on tht black spots if the black spots or patches splits thn its a hw issue
if it does nt u cn install graphic driver on other computer and run on this computer or rty to do restore ur computer at earlier date or if this software trouble shooting does nt work u have to do recovery/reformat ur system
