Help broken laptop..

Hello,
my laptop at home wont work. When I press the power button it starts up then ask about starting windows normally and a few other options too, but when I click on them the screen just goes black and you can only see the mouse? Iv tried switching it on and off again and holding the button but it still wont work. Any advice people?
