I would check that NumLock is not turned on. Laptop keyboards often have a feature that simulates the "numeric keypad" of a full sized keyboard. If NumLock (key might be labeled NumLk) will type numbers for the uio (456) - jkil (123) and m (0) keys.
NumLk is turned on/off using the NumLk Function key (in the top row) pressed together with the Function (Fn) on the bottom row. The exact Function key used varies by manufacturer (Dell uses F4).
