It's not unusual for a key to stop working since they a mechanical and can fail for a number of reasons. Have you tried to connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop? If the external keyboard works then you will need to replace the laptop keyboard. You can usually find instructions of replacing keyboards on the web. Replacement keyboards are often found on Ebay.
You can use the Onscreen keyboard that might be a little easier than cut and paste. Here is Microsoft's instructions:
