Hello,

you all seem so knowledgeable about computers. My laptop screen stopped working and I'm wondering if I take out the hard drive and put it in another laptop of same model, if it will ALL be the same (the info, data, word docs etc) and I can access them? Thanks for the help! *a panicked student*

If the other laptop is EXACTLY the same make and model then YES it should act exactly as it did on the original laptop.

When Windows is installed it customizes itself to the hardware it finds on the computer. If you transfer the hard drive and the hardware is not the same general design it's possible that it will not boot into Windows.

You might also be able to plug an external monitor into the current laptop. Find the PFKey needed to activate the VGA post and then you will be able to use the laptop much like a desktop.

Good Luck

You can also buy a USB hard drive enclosure that can convert your hard drive into a external drive that you can plug into any other computer. You can't boot from the computer using your drive. But, you should be able to access all your documents. There are two types of USB adapters IDE and SATA so you need to identify what type to buy.
