It can be a poor connection to the hard drive or a failed motherboard. Did the old hard drive fail?
Yes it emachines told me it has something to do with the south bridge whatever that might be I have no clue

The "southbridge" is a chip on the motherboard. If it has failed then you need a new motherboard. It's probably cheaper to buy a new laptop.
