How to connect 2 laptops(Win7Hm Bsic & WinXP)

Dear friends..
I have to 2 laptops & I have to connect them by LAN cable for data transfer but I have never tried to connect them. One laptop Having WinXP & Other one is of Win 7 Home Basic..
Please help me..I would be thankful If somebody put whole process..waiting for your reply..

Note : If you want to connect the two laptops directly then you need a crossover

cable.
