Well, based on the info you gave, I would say either some of your Windows files got corrupted or (if you downloaded the drivers for the printer) you have some sort of virus/malware that corrupted some files. Or could be that your hard drive was going bad anyways. In any case, try pressing F8 while your computer is booting up (before the Windows splash screen) and then select "Last Known Good Configuration". See if that helps.
