Headphones doesnot work in my laptop

Hello,
when ever i plug the headphone, sound comes from both the system as well as the headphones. what should i do to stop the sound coming from the system. but the same headset works well in my friends laptop which is same as mine.

Try This

Start
Control Panel
Sound and audio devices
You should see speaker settings at the bottom
click advanced
in the drop down box select Stereo headphones
