as soon as I send files(say a word file) to my pendrive and refresh it a same name file shortcut appears in it and if I refresh it the scond tym then only the sortcut remains ,, when I open the file it open as normal file .. still I dont understand wats the issue of becoming shortcuts all the tym ... i've formated it sevelal times i"ve also performed all the above mentioned steps but still problem remains the same ...... plese help I need my pendrive tomorow in my office as I need to carry some data in it ........
open ur pendrive and go to organize tab and then click forlder & search option, new window will appear and click to view that and uncheck hide protected system files (Recommended) and now referesh in pen drive and click to shortcut, ur all files will appear.

First off let's check if the files/folders on the drive are recoverable. If the files can be recovered you can run an antivirus scan on the drive and can retrieve your files.
Follow the steps below:
1. Boot the computer to Windows XP desktop (your profile mentions your computer has Windows XP).
2. Click start.
3. Click Run.
4. Type cmd and click Ok.
5. Once the cmd prompt with black background appears type the following and hit Enter:
attrib -h -r -s /s /d f:\*.*
(Assuming f: is the drive letter for your USB flash drive in my computer.)
6. If the cmd prompt displays the list of files/folders, you can still recover them.
7. Run full scan on the USB flash drive using your antivirus software.
8. If you are using Windows XP 32-bit then you can get a free antivirus software from Microsoft.( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials/download 9. Once the scan is complete or during the scan do select to remove the malicious content from your computer.
10. Hopefully, you will be able to recover your files on the USB flash drive. This worked for me.
Please ignore Network Adapters in step 11 above instead select Display Adapters. And consequent steps should also have Display adapter instead of Network. Sorry about the mistake.

If I am correct, you received the error "Path not found - F:\" error in step 5? This error arises due to not typing the drive path correctly in the command. You must replace "F:\" with the drive letter of the Pen Drive. Try correcting this and check if this works.
