Hi kcorp,
From the information you have posted it look there is no video in the machine. Try the following steps and reply the results:
1. Power on the computer and check the status of the power indicators on the machine (viz. power button, power light, etc.)
2. Adjust the brightness of the LCD screen, while the computer is on. (To Adjust the LCD Brightness, hold the FN Key and Repeatedly Press the Up Arrow to increase the brightness.) If you don't get any video try the below steps.
3. Power off the computer.
4. Press and hold the letter D on the keyboard and then the power button while you are still holding the letter D, wait for the computer to power on. Release the keys after the power is on.
5. See if you get color patterns displayed on the screen. If the color patterns are displayed and still there is no video after the test ends. Try an external monitor with the machine (if you have one).
6. If you get video on the external monitor and not on laptop, it indicates the problem is limited to the screen and needs replacement.
If the symptoms are not from any of the above, do reply with the status of the power indicators (if they are displaying blinking/breathing/solid color). Also mention if you hear any beeps from the machine.
Please do write back to us.

Hi kcorp,
Sorry for the delayed response. Do you hear any beeps? What is the color of the power light on your Inspiron M5030? Also there are 3 LEDs in front of the system; do you see any change in their status?
You can find the steps on how to reseat the processor from the following link:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insM5030/en/sm/cpucool.htm#wp1084976
However, it is not recommended to reseat the processor without professional supervision.
Do reply with results.
