Laptop is not wokring!!!!!

I have a huge problem, my laptop always used to shut down unexpectedly and i would get a blue screen with writing on it... but recently it shut down and never opened back up again..

The light comes on but the screen doesn't i have tried everything taking the battery out etc NOTHING WORKS! i am assuming it could be the hard drive? but about a year ago my hard drive went and i could get a screen up like a recovery screen, this doesn't happen at all! Please could someone help me as i have files on it that I need!!

Most likely it's the motherboard that is at fault. I suggest you remove the hard drive, mount it in an external USB drive enclosure. You might then be able to recover the files you need.
