Hi Al W,
On a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer that is using certain network adapter drivers and certain host firewall software, you may receive a STOP 0x000000D1 error message.
You have mentioned in your post that you can intermittently manage to boot to safe mode but it gives bluescreen. Start the computer in safe mode not safe mode with networking. Microsoft recommends running the following update:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8548
Download and Install this update and see if the issue is fixed.
Do reply with results.

Hi Zohaib R,
Thanks for your response. I have successfully installed the update you provided. The BSOD continues. In addition, the Microsoft Windows error screen pops up all the time:
"The system has recovered from a serious error.
A log...has been created
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report...
Send error report Don't send"
After sending error report to Microsoft, I receive a response to update:-
Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter Software (w22n51.sys)
I have tried to update the Intel driver but the BSOD screen pops up before I get to run the update.
I have also tried to enter multiple websites with this Intel driver link including directly from the Intel Website. Each time, I get the Microsoft Internet Explorer message:-
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://.....etc...
Operation Aborted"
I hope you can help. Thanks.

Hi Al W,
From the information you have provided it is apparent that Windows fins Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter Software (w22n51.sys) is the cause of the problem. Try removing any traces of this Driver and see if you still get the BSOD.
To remove the Network Adapter from Device Manger check the steps below:
1. Right click Computer Icon on the Desktop.
2. Click Properties.
3. Select Device Manager from left.
4. Find the Network Adapters Category and click the "+" to the left.
5. The Network Interface Controller (NIC) will be listed if installed. Right click the adapter used, select Properties
6. Navigate to the Driver tab in the NIC Properties.
7. Selecting the Uninstall button will remove the existing driver from the device manger.
8. Check "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK in Confirm the Uninstall window.
Please revert for clarification.

Hi Zohaib R,
I totally agree with you and hope that someone will find the solution below useful as I have from your efforts.
1. After clicking on Microsoft send error reporting, Microsoft provided the solution below.
http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/1507/en-us/5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0?SGD=e9f67e06-bd34-4f77-9298-8c922da152ba&Bucket=OLD_IMAGE_w22n51.sys_SONY
2. The link in (1.) lead to the Intel link below.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005600/network-and-io/wireless.html
3. From link (2.), I clicked on the first link "Automatically install your wireless driver and software".
I followed the prompts which detected I needed a driver update Version 9.0.4.39
Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG adapter Software (w22n51.sys)
The link to the driver can be found here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/3821/network-and-io/wireless/legacy-intel-wireless-products/intel-pro-wireless-products/intel-pro-wireless-2200bg-network-connection.html

Follow these guidelines to fix BSOD:
Check Recently Installed Hardware and Device Drivers
Repair Your Registry
Check CMOS and Memory Modules
Rectify a Damaged Hard Drive
Scan for Virus
If you are unable to follow these troubleshooting instructions then i would suggest to use an authorized System optimizer like Intel software partner Reginout.
