Fan starts up but HDD doesnt, screen black

Hello. I hope someone can help..

My daughters PC (HP running Windows XP) froze the other day. I turned it off at the switch. Went to turn it back on and nothing. I press the on button and nothing happens for a few seconds. Then it beeps once, and the light comes on (with light bulb) but the HDD light doesnt come on at all. The fans start up. Nothing happens, black screen.

Has the hard drive failed? Do I need to buy a new one? Or is it something else.

most likely you have a power supply or motherboard problem. I suggest you take the PC to a repair shop.
