Hello,
Try this 1
1) First connect your portable Hard Drive.
2) Click on Start --> In search bar, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
"Device Manager" will be opened.
Expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" --> Now right-click on "USB Mass
Storage\USB Device" --> Select "Uninstall" --> Click on OK --> Restart your PC.

hi i have tried the above mentioned steps, when i restarted my pc, it tried installing drivers for the usb drive but after long try it showed message on screen ' PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE GETTING THIS DEVICE INSTALLED and the status was UNKNOWN DEVICE, STATUS FAILED.
mate this is happening with all the pcs wherever i tried to connect this HD, happening only after i connected this to blue ray player..

Try this 1
Are you using the same USB data cable that came with your portable hard drive? Also check your USB data cable. Also let us know your portable hard drive brand name and model number.

Hi mate.
yes im using the same cable that came with the HDD, as i plug the HD pop up comes and says windows cant recognize this usb, im using Segate,Free agent, goflex
