Hi robbiekruger,
Please try the below mentioned steps and check if this works:
1. Power off the laptop.
2. Remove the battery and the AC Adapter.
3. Press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds.
4. Release the power button.
5. Put the battery back and connect the AC adapter.
6. Try to power on the computer and check if there is any change.
You have mentioned in your post, "if I connect the power suply the power light turns on for a few seconds then turns of". I would like to know which power light you are referring to. Is it the light on the AC adapter or the power light on the laptop? Also, in your reply add the System Model Number of your laptop.
Please do write back to us.

Hi robbiekruger,
Please follow the below mentioned steps in the specified order and check if this fixes the problem:
1. Try to power on the computer using only the AC Adapter (without the battery).
2. If there is no change, try to remove the following components in the order mentioned below:
a. Battery.
b. Hard Drive.
c. Optical Drive (CD/DVD drive).
d. External Memory Module.
e. Bluetooth Board.
f. Keyboard.
3. After removing the above components, reseat the "Switch Cover" cables.
4. With all these components removed and only the Switch Cover connected, power on the computer and check if you observe any difference.
5. If you hear any beeps or any sequence of LEDs (lights), start connecting the components one by one starting from (f.) to (a.) mentioned in step 2.
6. If you do not hear any beeps or any change in the indicators on the machine, this indicates some major component (such as Motherboard, Power sub system, etc.) is failing. You will need to contact HP support for further course of action.
(Note: These steps require you to reseat the components by removing the system cover/taking apart the chassis. Please perform these steps only if you are comfortable else seek a technician's help. Also, refer to the Service Manual for accurate steps and safety instructions. You can get the Service Manual by clicking here).
Do reply with results.
Thanks & Regards
