Hello

I have a Dell Studio 1555 (who cares :D) and I,m facing a weird problem which has been driving me crazy.
My laptop case was broken and after I change the case the display brightness is no longer working ( it,s in the lowest possible mode/ somehow is impossible to read or see anything ).
So far I changed the TFT cable (The problem is still there). I'm sure is not a software issue because the brightness is so low even when I restart or before it wants to load the windows OS. I already check it with different display/HDMI cable and everything works just fine, so It shouldn't be a Graphic Card's problem as well.

I don't know what else to check and I was wondering if you can help me figure what may caused the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sialis,

Have you tried increasing the brightness by pressing the F5 key? You have mentioned the case was broken, what type of damage happened to the laptop? Was there any impact on the LCD? If the actual damage happened to the LCD, there is a probability the LCD has damaged.

Thx Zohaib

F5 Keys and any other function keys doesn't work (note that I even try to increase the brightness in CPanel (power option) and it's now on high level, but nothing changed and display brightness still is in lowest mode)

I,m sure there wasn't any impact on the LCD, any damage

Hi Sialis,

Power off the computer and then try to power on the computer using D + Power Button. This will start the LCD BIST (Built In Self Test). If the LCD is dim during this test as well, then the LCD needs to be replaced.

Hi Sialis,

Apparently the result of the tests indicates that the issue is with the LCD. The LCD panel needs to be replaced.
