Ipod wont charge

I was playing games on my ipod all day and it was charfing fine last night i ran the battery down because i haven't done that in a while and put it on the charger. i woke up this morning and it hadent charged at all. I've switched charger ports, held the home and power button down while off the the charger and on the the.charger, and switched outlets and all that. when i hold down the button the screen flashes white the goes to a black screen with a dead battery, a charger icon, and and a lightning bolt .
