Hello,

I bought a new hard disk (MK5076GSX) for a Toshiba Satellite C660 and tried to instal it and boot the laptop - no joy.

The old hard disk was not working well - I backed it up and bought new drive.
couldn't get it to work. sent it back and another replacement came back in post

Just installed it this evening and went to boot up

i know I probably have to configure the hard disk - but don't know how to do that.

it entered boot menu and stayed there
i went into bios and saved and exited to get the computer to boot up.

got a flash of the toshiba screen - all ok so far.
then a few flashes of normal boot messages as it tried to boot
then it came back into boot menu with message at the bottom:

[ HDD/SSD TOSHIBA MK5076GSX ] is failed

Am I doing something wrong?
or is it another faulty drive?

help please folks (by the way in case it was not clear - I haven't a clue what i'm doing!! :-) )

regards
francis

You need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order so the PC boots from the CD/DVD drive. Then put the Windows DVD into the drive and turn the PC on. Windows should then find and ask to format the hard drive. Before it installs the OS.

Good Luck
