Cd rom not detected

When i put a cd in the drive the light blinks for some time after that noting.....cd is not detected.....
bootable cds are not detected at startup....the icon in My Computer is gone(but other icon 'cd rom' is there, two icons were there but now only one)..in Bios also it is not shown..is this virus prob? or prob with the drive? My lap is hp pavillion dv6000

hi,
it seems that the drive is faulty.
get it replaced. but before doing so, check if the drive is well connected to the cables and see also the cables if they are correctly plugged in the motherboard and power supply.
