Can Only Run XP Computer In Safe Mode

Hello, My Windows XP Pc has recentley been "playing up" so to say it has been letting me get onto msn messenger but then when i try load up the internet it says cannot display webpage but i launched it in safe mode and the internet will work but its annoying me how i can only load it in safe mode, does anyone know whats wrong with my pc? thanks
