Windows internet explorer for xp wont load

i have an xp pc the windows internet explorer wont work have tried most things even tried windows internet explorer 8 this wont work and keep getting a message saying cant find google or yahoo web search
why is this and what can i do to get my pc back into internet explorer

Hang in there, we have to see if you have transport...

open a command prompt (start-run-cmd<Enter>) and ping www.google.com


Let us know if you can ping.
