Home vista windows explorer or Firefox I get no response just a

I have read a few messages but they seem to answer my problem on xp

I have vista

I am connected to the internet via a USB wireless adapter. This shows as connected.

When I try load windows explorer or Firefox I get no response just a blank page

I have selected windows update and that does not load

Please help.
