I have Dell Inspiron1420 and I am facing the same problem. When I turn on my laptop, the Dell logo appears, then the black screen appears. The power button is lightened up. the hard driver button is lighten short time until dell log appear then at the same time hard drive button is turnoff the screen become black.

You might remove one of the memory modules to see if you have a memory problem. Other than that there is not much a home user can do to fix what might be a motherboard problem. I suggest you have a local repair shop do a diagnosis. A new laptop or tablet might cost less that fixing you current laptop.
