Are we talking about an external hard drive? What OS do you use?
Confirm that files are not hidden from Folder Options, then open the Command Prompt and type attrib -h -r -s /s /d z:\*.*, where "z" is the letter of your drive. Check if there is any change. Since you have difficulties using the attrib command, try again in Safe Mode with CMD.
