Computer can't get online

Hello,

I am trying to get my computer to work....not this one, but one in my basement. I spent an hour on the phone with TimeWarner Cable and they said I need to call Microsoft because other people there have spent hours on the phone trying to get the issue resolved with no avail. My modem is working fine they said and it's hooked up correctly, but when I run my mouse over the 2 computer symbol on the bottom of the taskbar near the time it says it's not hooked to a network. The technician had me turn on custom controls under network discovery and it didn't help.

Has anyone else come across this? Any help would be appreciated before I have to call Microsoft.
